The season of Lent will soon be here. Ash Wednesday on February 14 marks the beginning of Lent and reminds us we are stardust as we journey towards the expectation of Easter Resurrection. It is a sacred liturgical season, destined towards a celebration of the Paschal Mystery, as well as a reflective period where we contemplate our lives and make adjustments to our spiritual course.
Here at The Well Spirituality Center we offer several opportunities to embrace the Lenten Journey. You are welcome to join us for any or all of these programs:
Journey to Easter
with Marianne Race, CSJ
Monday, February 12, 7-8:30 pm
Give yourself the gift of time for quiet and personal reflection before the journey toward Easter begins. By combining the Scripture readings for the Sundays of Lent with stories of compassion, forgiveness and redemption we discover the common threads of brokenness and light that bind us together. Lenten themes of prayer as openness to God’s love, fasting from fractured relationships and almsgiving of mercy toward ourselves and others bring joy and hope into our daily lives. Learn more.
Remember You Are Stardust!
Ash Wednesday, February 14, 7-8 pm
with Reflection by Carol Crepeau, CSJ.
The Spirit of Love is calling us into Lent for the sake of a world hungering for love. Join us in responding to the call to come home and live from our deep heart. Ash Wednesday Prayer and Reflection includes the distribution of ashes.
Responding to Violence and Conflict:
A Restorative Justice Approach
with David Kelly, C.PP.S.
Saturday, February 17, 9:30-Noon
Restorative justice embraces the values and principle of faith communities. Drawing from his years of work with youth and families in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood, David will explore violence and trauma, and how restorative justice enables a community to respond to the harm done. David A. Kelly is a Catholic priest of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. David has been involved with detention/jail ministry since 1977 and has worked for Kolbe House at Assumption, a parish-based jail ministry since1985. Learn more and register online.
Untying the Knots – Polarization in America
with Mike McGillicuddy
Saturday, March 24, 9 am – 12:30 pm
Mike is convinced that there is an accelerating crisis of polarization in American society. There is evidence that trust is eroding, lifelong friendships are fraying, families are becoming estranged and faith traditions are impacted by polarization, as well.
In this interactive workshop, Mike will invite participants to step outside their comfort zones, explore the worldviews of others with curiosity and humility, while refraining from persuasion and judgement. The focus is on identifying and building upon what we have in common rather than debating the contested issues that divide us. Mike McGillicuddy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
