Roots of Harm, Seeds of Hope: Resiliency and Resurgence in Indigenous Communities

This event follows on the previous presentation of Roots of Harm, Seeds of Hope with Sister Christen Tomi. Facilitators Jody and Felicia will share their experience as an urban Native American, integrating culture and traditions in today’s society, along with the challenges and efforts of being a bridge of healing for Native Americans. By helping to change the narrative about Native Americans, we are resilient people and still here today.

Felicia Peters (Menominee and Santo Domingo Pueblo) is the program coordinator for ISTEAM. She previously worked as a middle school math and science teacher for Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and as an educator for the American Indian Education Program in CPS.

Jody Roy is Ojibwe, originally from Atikameksheng Anishinabek First Nation in Canada. Jody is the Director of the St. Kateri Center, a ministry of St. Benedict Parish within the Archdiocese of Chicago serving Chicago’s Native American Population. She recently completed her term as President of the Chicago American Indian Community Collaborative. The Chicago American Indian Community Collaborative (CAICC) is a network of seventeen organizations and programs dedicated to meeting the needs and improving conditions for Native Americans in the greater Chicago-land area. Jody is also an active leader in working toward Truth, Healing, and Reconciliation.
